Generic Prednisone 40mg (Oral Route) Taper

Interactive Dose Guide & Recovery Tips

About Prednisone

Prednisone is a corticosteroid used to decrease inflammation and immune response. It is commonly prescribed for severe allergies, arthritis, and breathing disorders.

⚠️Important: Please check the taper schedule prescribed for your personal use and follow this chart accordingly. Always adhere to the directions for your prescription as advised by your attending physician.

  • Never Stop Suddenly: If you have been taking Prednisone for more than a couple of weeks, you must taper off slowly under a doctor’s guidance. Stopping "cold turkey" can cause a serious drop in blood pressure and extreme fatigue (adrenal crisis).

  • Avoid NSAIDs: Be careful with painkillers like Ibuprofen (Advil/Motrin) or Aspirin while on Prednisone, as the combination significantly increases your risk of stomach ulcers. Use Acetaminophen (Tylenol) instead if your doctor says it's okay.

How to Take Your Dose

  • With Food: Take each dose with a meal or milk to prevent stomach upset.

  • Timing: Best taken in the morning (before 9 AM) to mimic your body's natural cycle and prevent insomnia.

  • Consistency: Take your dose at the same time every day.

  • Finish the Course: Do not stop taking this medication suddenly without your doctor's approval.
